A message for those who want to be involved
If you feel a tug on your heart to make a difference, know that your willingness to serve can be a powerful answer to someone’s prayer. Volunteering at a nonprofit isn’t just about filling a need—it’s about being the hands and feet of Christ in a world that deeply needs His love. Every act of kindness, no matter how small, has the potential to bring light into someone’s darkest moment. You were created with purpose, and your time, talents, and compassion can have an eternal impact. Step forward in faith—there’s a place for you here.
I Want To Be Involved Q&A
I have a friend who is a member of a WELS church, but is pretty liberal on the subject of transgender and other subjects. I would like to speak to her but I don’t want to start an argument. I would appreciate a simple explanation and would like to know the church’s stand on this.
Let me try to break this down to help address your concern:
A WELS Member Who May Not Be In-Step with WELS Theology
She is not alone. It never ceases to amaze me how clearly we can preach Scripture and yet how often the clarity is not realized by some listeners. It is not only that we are not good listeners. Each of us has a battle raging within us between “seeking God” and “rejecting God.” All of us, including us preachers, have floundered in being consistent in our allegiance. Perhaps that is why I so like reading the writings of the Apostle Paul. When he wrote Romans 7 it was like a mirror of my own experiences – wanting to do good, and yet endless fighting the desire to do bad.
For years I’ve been rather quietly pro-life, but now I am more concerned about the abuse of human life. What can I do to help make a difference?
- Volunteer at a local pregnancy care center. You can help in a variety of ways that match your particular interests and talents.
- Participate in the “Change for Life” program to benefit the home-for-mothers ministry of New Beginnings – A Home for Mothers.
- Volunteer at a nursing home or hospice. Many residents are alone and need personal encouragement.
- Share your beliefs in daily conversations. Be confident in discussing your Christian values when talking about life issues.
- Help a single mom or a caregiver. Your support of those who demonstrate a caring attitude gives a strong message about the value of human life.
- Write letters. Your local newspaper as well as your state and federal legislators appreciate hearing from the community.
- Promote a Celebration of Life Sunday at your church. This gives the opportunity to address life issues in the light of God’s Word.

What’s next now that Roe v. Wade is overturned?
The battle to protect unborn children is not a political or legislative one but a spiritual one. It is the spiritual instruction of a nation, person by person, in the supremacy of God. His authorship over life and the responsibility of all of us to protect and care for all lives. It is important to remember that outlawing abortion even in all 50 states, without changing hearts is a hollow victory. Our prime concern is for the souls of mothers and their children in the abortion issue. A desire to abort is also sinful. It is the sinful actions and desires of people that can only be addressed by the clear proclamation of God full counsel of Law and Gospel, Judgment, and Deliverance in Jesus Christ. So, we strive for the political and legislative victories, but our work hardly stops there.
I am recently employed. I’m a Christian and love the Lord dearly but have a hard time proclaiming him at work. As soon as someone mocks God, I do nothing to defend his holy name. Why is that? I can worship him with friends and family, but I can’t seem to share him with the people I work with.
You ask, “Why is that?” Our struggles with sinful nature, our bouts with spiritual immaturity, our less than fervent love for our neighbor, and our tendency to demonstrate spiritual indifference are proper starting points.
