The recent presidential debate raised two important questions: Does President Biden have the mental acuity to rule competently for a second term, and does former President Trump’s propensity to exaggerate and lie make him a good politician or unqualified for office?
Or could this all be a distraction?
I came to Christian Life Resources to fight abortion. Soon we expanded to address euthanasia, then eugenics, scientific experiments that destroy life, sexual freedom, disintegration of marriage, and the list grows.
Presidential debates are competitive showplaces of prevailing ideologies. We want “our man” to win with every answer, sound bite, and facial expression. The prize is some modern iteration of independence and freedom.
Or maybe this is misdirection. Fixation on the great moral, social, civic, and economic issues of our time obscures what might really be happening—the demise of the freedom to practice and share our faith.
Admittedly, no candidate argues to take away religious freedom. At least not yet. But some policies and their logical conclusion heads in that direction. We learn from history that religious views can be venerate, tolerated, debated, and often eliminated in the name of some higher ideal of independence and freedom.
From the first temptation, Satan has set out to distract us with noble-sounding ventures (you can be like God – Genesis 3:5). After all, Jesus would later call us to imitate God (Matthew 5:48), and Peter called us to imitate Jesus (1 Peter 2:21). The difference between the satanic bidding, and those of God, has to do with the heart and priorities. Where is our heart and whose priorities are we pursuing?
I want a world where the unborn, the disabled, and the aging are protected. I want science harnessed in service to God and not in opposition to him. But even if we were to accomplish these noble goals, but neglected faith, we would have failed miserably (Hebrews 11:6).
The goal behind everything we do at Christian Life Resources is to build bridges with life issues and share the message of salvation in Christ. When hearts are calibrated to the glory of God, all other issues fall into place. Don’t be distracted. Your mission remains the same: to be God’s ambassador of the Gospel. Make sure that in the process of fighting for noble causes, the preeminent cause does not slip away. Protect your freedom of religion by practicing it.
